HI i have a 1984 c20 350 th400 combo .the engine is not in a happy state .so today i removed the engine ive been around chevrolet engines for a while now but i do not recognise any of the id markings on the engine .the front pad in front of the pasenger side head reads KO402T4U under this is c91178349 can sum one help to de code this so far ive come up with nothing .

HI again on the rear drivers side it says gm 3970010 on pasenger side just behind distributor says 350 ?

That block casting was used a boat load of engines. I have one sitting on the stand that was a 350 crate replacement in a 1979 K30. It has 4-bolt mains. Yours may or may not, think you have to peek.

The first number tells you original build info. K0402 means it was assembled in Ontario, Canada on April 2nd. T4U is the suffix code for that specific engine application... I can't find a listing for it in the standard suffix code list, maybe because it was originally an export model? The closest I can find is T5A, which is listed as a 1984 350, 155hp, 4bbl, truck application.

The second number is likely a partial VIN. It will look different from the normal one since it is foreign production. You can find more info on stamping codes in the Lime Book: http://www.camaros.org/pdf/LimeBook.pdf

Are you sure it T4U? I don't come up with anything either. Maybe you could share a pic of the numbers?
