How do you read these diagrams? What do the dashed/dotted lines mean?

I'm just curious if anybody has a list for AWG sizes on a electrical schematic. I included a pic to help with what I'm asking. To start with, in the picture how do I determine what size the brown and light blue wires are circled in red. It says .5 LT BLU - 14 and .5 BRN - 9. In the green it has .8 TAN - 12 and .8 BLK - 150. I get the last number is the location where the wire goes on the connector but my main question is how do I determine the AWG wire size for the first number? I have looked on the line but can't seem to come up with a definitive answer.

If anybody can help a guy out that would be great.

Just typed a book and hit the wrong key and it all disappeared. Looking for direction on where the harness goes that connects the Fuel Switching Valve, Fuel Pumps and Cab Tank Selector Switch and Fuel Gauge, did I miss anything? Where do they end up and is there a connector somewhere in the engine compartment. Need help with this.
