Double wall exhaust system, anybody do it ?

3/8" in and out fuel line.
I'm hoping the new fuel filter with the return line will keep enough gas flowing through the pump to keep it cool.

I do not know how to search for posts I've responded to, I tried.Anyway I think it was curse was having fuel pressure problems I posted part numbers for a 3 port fuel filter with a built in restrictor so fuel follows the path of least resistance which is the open needle and seat.When the needle and seat closed path of least resistance was the return too the tank.No regulator required.FWIW curse tried a spectre fp regulator, it leaked brand new out of the box.I think I even listed what cars those filters came on..Someone has listed a 3 port fuel pump number do a little research and make sure it has a restrictor or pinch your return line a little to create restriction.The return line was the factory fix for a common. 60s, 70's era vehicle and I'd bet money it's what you need.

Yes, a Wix 33040 or a 33041 depending on how one wishes the return line to stick out of the filter.
Used mainly on Mopars, but don't tell my truck that, it does not like anything Chrysler, Ford, or VW .......

And I am not going back to a mechanical fuel pump because of the cam lobe wear that runs the pump rod.

I ordered one from Amazon for 7 bucks, free shipping because it was my first order.
It's scheduled to arrive Tuesday.
Sure beats paying 20 at the parts store and burn 40 bucks in gas to go get it.

That's your first order on Amazon and you live where it's $40 in gas to go to town and back!!!???? I live in a rural area too. I order everything that's a decent price on Walmart or Amazon! If it's the same price or a bit less or even a bit more and they ship it to my door for free and I don't have to waste my time riding all over and going into stores it's getting delivered to my house in a box. I think even if you don't pay the prime price it's only $35 per order for Amazon to ship free. It's easy to order that amount of stuff

We have to use either a PO box in the podunk "town" or have the local thrift store/food bank receive packages, sign for them, and then call when somebody has something to be picked up.
That's still a 12 mile each way trip, and takes a minimum of two hours to go there and return home.

An hour to go 12 miles!!! Dang that must be a real bad dirt road!!

It takes 45 minutes to go the first 5 miles to get to a paved road.
Sometimes it's an hour, sometimes even longer when 4 wheel drive isn't enough and I have to put chains on.

33040 and 33041 difference should be line size 33040 5/16th 33041 is 3/8ths line pontiac used 3 line filters in 60s tell your truck it's off a gto. I feel your pain about having to drive everywhere. I'm not near as secluded as you but if I need to go get a part or a tool it's a minimum of 1hr round trip drive time.But at night it's dark and I can listen to the coyote.

Experiencing this exact issue with my K10. Running in the driveway when it gets hot I watch the fuel pressure drop to 0 and eventually the engine dies. It doesn’t always die I can watch the fuel pressure fluctuate to 0 and pick back up. I ordered header wrap and heat shielding for the gas line. Hopefully this helps my problem. The steel gas line runs on the inner side of the frame right next to the exhaust. This is where I think my problem is, not sure if you have manifolds or headers.

The vapor lock problem happens on warm to hot days, above 60 degrees.
And starts after a highway run.
The fuel line coming over the crossmember to the switch solenoid will quit drawing gas, so I switch to the passenger tank.
It resumes pumping gas, and after a while it quits.
I get out with a spray bottle of water, and douse the fuel lines, electric pump, and switch solenoid to cool them off, and the gas will start to flow again.
I figure if the crossover line can vapor lock, it has to be from the exhaust system heat.
The passenger exhaust pipe is a good foot from the pump and lines, etc ....


Random thought.

Does your gas tank have a vent line on it?
Or is the vent blocked off?

Or is the return possibly blocked?

Generally In my limited. Experience, vapor lock is due to timing.

But you're sure timing is spot on, not to mention she runs, so I'm gonna say fuel lines with vent or return.

Dammit, I ordered the wrong filter, (33040) so I guess I get to tighten the **** out of the hose clamps and pray it doesn't leak.
The 33041 with 3/8 fittings in and out has the return line sticking out of the filter housing about halfway down the shell of the filter and it looks like the filter has an ********.

When I drove the truck 2 days ago and it quit running, there was a slight amount of pressure in the driver's tank when I loosened the gas cap.
I could see a vacuum in the tank making it hard to pull gas from the tank, but a bit of pressure should (in my thinking) allow gas to be pumped out easier.

I don't think I blocked off any vent or return lines, and I will double check to see if the return line is attached to the switch solenoid.

For Volcanomike: the truck has stock manifolds. I yanked the headers off when they burned through the pipes, they were causing heat soak issues with the starter, so I heat tape wrapped them to take care of the heat soak problem but the increased heat trapped by the wrap caused them to burn out.

That pressure was fuel vapor trying to escape.With a vented cap that would have just been lost fuel.I try to keep my evap in shape and working correctly, I want to burn my fuel not vent it into the atmosphere, and also don't like the water drawn in with a vented cap.

Can’t wait to hear if it solves the problem!

Me too, I depend on that truck since the 84 K10 needs to get put down for a bit so I can refresh the engine.

My Camaro had vapor lock issues until I wrapped the fuel line in insulation to keep the exhaust heat off it. That’s my next step on the K10. Here’s a picture of the Camaro fuel line:
