I know Elderlyiron on youtube used fiberglass resin to restore a shift knob, not sure how it turned out but it might be worth a look

I'll have to check one out later, dinnertime.

But a quick update, the support is freed, it's ready to be taken in for repairs.

That might work to restore it. But first the lines, numbers, and N & R need to be cleaned well and painted. Still trying to find what paint will adhere to this material, if it matters the type of paint. Then the clear like he did, it should look sharp.

I took some Dawn and a soft bristle toothbrush to it on Friday.

I have to admit I kinda like the "lots of shifting" look it has right now, though.

I'm really jealous of this truck! I'm gonna keep watching this.

Dropped of the core. He said it doesn't look bad, just the one spot I showed in the photo of the passenger side. Provided a piece of sheet metal for him to use, and he should have it done shortly.

I'll show you guys once it's done, the color scheme for the front end. It'll look sharp.

Then you won't like it when I say have an extra one, same year, a 3/4 ton built in the same factory, that's going to get built over the next couple years.

Right after I posted that post, mom called, grandma passed away this morning. Been visiting family today.

But, here is the fix, he made it solid again.

I'll smooth it out a little more before it goes back in.

But I'm out. Will check back in a day or so.

Been doing stuff to the house this week.

The new to me, old shift knob needed some shine. Tried polishing compound, bon ami, then 600 grit and 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper, then some wax. It can use some more attention, but for now it looks a lot better.

Do you guys know what kind of paint to use for lines, numbers, N & R?

Thank you. It's been a rough one, but we're doing okay. She lived to be 95, survived The Depression, Grandpa survived The Depression and WWII. While he was in WWII she worked at Mars in Chicago. After he got back to the states they started anew in 1946. They farmed in Missouri, moved to California in 1960, where he mined, was a reserve sheriff, and they owned a few businesses & ran two of them. She retired shortly after grandpa passed in 1987, got remarried a few years later and buried him in 2004. She never stopped working, though, was always on the move whether it was cooking, cleaning, gardening, crocheting, you name it, she did it. Even at 80 she was lugging around 5 gallon buckets of rocks for the flower beds. She truly lived a full life.
