Does lowering effect load carrying ability?

Im in the process of lowering my 1988 GMC (its the square cab body style) using a 3/4 Beltech kit. I am also thinking about buying a slide in self contained camper...

Will lowering effect my ability to carry the camper, it will be a 10-12 foot slide in type...

I would suggest helper bags with a big camper in there.

My truck also has a "Hidden" 5th Wheel Hitch" there is a crank hidden in the wheelwell to raise it up...

Will this effect the installation of the Beltech lowering kit?

I planned on air bags if I do the camper but thanks for the reminder....

If your spring rate stays the same, lowering it will actually improve it’s center of gravity—albeit, not much. Those big campers are probably harder on suspension than anything else.

Do you mean a gooseneck hitch? I’m not sure how that would work since the plate is usually right over the differential or maybe slightly forward of the axle centerline.

This truck is probably the reason I own the truck I have now. His podcast is pretty good too.

I think there’s lots of examples of lowered trucks hauling loads so I’m not sure that will be an issue if done correctly.

It's a step that sides in and out. My recollection is that it attaches to the bottom of the door. These were popular before running boards.

To go down 4 in the rear should not be a problem, I pretty sure Bell tech uses the shackle, hanger and C notch but you also remove the overload perches and springs that is where your problem is going to be. Some good sized air helper spring will do the trick for you. also would recommend aftermarket heavy duty sway bar in the rear, that big camper is a huge wind brake.
