I am wondering what is the difference in distributor caps for our trucks.

I was on Rockauto and did a distributor cap search for a 1974 Chevrolet K10 and it came up with a cap that looks like this:
You must be registered for see images

But if I look up a distributor cap for a 1976 Chevrolet K10 it gives me a cap that looks like this:
You must be registered for see images attach

Why would there be a difference in caps between the two years if both use a HEI distributor?

That is an error on their part. The top one is not HEI. Unless there is a different HEI design that I am not aware of. All HEI's I have seen look like the bottom one.

That top picture is a points style cap. That little metal part slides up so you can adjust the points. Also the middle terminal is for an external coil.

That is what I was thinking which is why I got confused for and thinking RA maybe slightly in error regarding this.

Unless some 350s in 1974 came with points?
