@My78truck,
Becky, what else have you done to your truck? Any interior changes, tires & wheels, even engine dress up kits? Any add on's or removal's like going from column auto trans shifter to floor shift? What? I to appreciate the fact that you're being a female who works on her own truck holds much interest in what you've done to keep it up or custom work done to it.
Once upon a time, it ALL started (2 years ago) because the heater core crapped out. So, I had to take out the carpet on that side because it was soaked with antifreeze and water. Well, that led to removing the seats, pulling all the carpet, removing the old cracked dash, pulling the instrument cluster, cleaning up and painting white the cluster housing. Because the heater core had gone un-noticed so long, had open rust line at trans hump seam. Also the seam sealer in the cowl trough had failed over time so there was rust up under the dash. So, had to pull all the ducting out, remove the glove box and ash tray. Worked many weeks on getting all that fixed using aluminium reinforced body fill, fiber glass resin and mat undercoating. Rebuilt the passenger side kick seal that works on vacuum. Installed new clock, wiper switch & head lamp switch. Put new circuit board on back of cluster housing. Had a new radio installed. Cleaned up the fuse block, installed all new fuses. Replaced turn signal lever with cruisemaster 1 button cruise (my dad helped me with that). Cleaned up engine bay and painted as good as I could the valve covers and down the engine block. Also painted some parts gloss black. Cleaned up air filter housing, replaced air breather and temp sensor and replaced vacuum tubes for temp sensor. Installed new grill, replaced all lights with LEDs. Removed old ugly chrome looking locking strip around front and back window and installed new. Also did some minor body work (small areas) on hood nose and couple other places at lower wheel well using aluminum reinforced body fill and/or fiber glass resin and matting, sanded, primed and painted areas. Removed all failing seam sealer out of bed and reapplied. Front bed panel, at top where roll is, was strangely rusting out above pinch weld. So did some body work on that to clean it up. Have sprayed inside closed in areas like bed supports internal frame and then heavy duty anti-rust. Pressure washed and cleaned cross member, control arms, any thing under engine then sprayed with rust convertor and internal frame which converts, encapsulates and acts as a top coat. Replaced all door & door window seals/felts.
Currently working on cleaning up under the bed so I can restore it. Past 2 days have been spent scrapping, pressure washing, wire brushing and using 2 gallons of full strength degreaser/cleaner. Once completely dry, will coat everything with rust converter, top coat with rust encapsulator and top coat that with chassis black. Then I will work on steel wheels (originals) by cleaning up and painting and then start addressing the bed and apply a bed liner that is the color of the truck.
So, does that answer your question? I have pics but too many to post here. Oh, I also installed a kill switch.
