delete or not??? emissions

hey guys was just wondering whos deleted the emissions..81 305 with electronic spark control.. have bypassed the esc.. module went out.. but was wondering about the cat converter and emissions hoses.. ect ect

If you aren’t exempt I’d keep it, otherwise keep it simple

X2..if exempt from smog testing...gut that like a fish. Ditch the converter, smog pump, plug the exhaust manifold air tubes and then proceed to clean up the engine bay of all the spaghetti vac lines.

You'll gain next to nothing yanking that crap out. The anemic 120 horse 305 will go to 123 horse. You have much bigger fish to fry.

He wont necessarily gain huge h.p. gains, but it is still worthless equipment that just gets in the way regardless.

I’d get rid of everything except the charcoal canister and PCV. If it was TBI, I’d say keep the EGR valve, too, but no computer, no codes, no problem. It won’t be too bad, but if the air injection is still there, that’s gonna be a fun one (not) and the EFE valve presents a few options in its deletion (manifold spacer, gut the thing, tie the valve open). You’ll also need an EGR block off plate for the manifold.

not tbi and no smog testing.. alot of vacuum lines..no air injection pump.. no egr.. so far its completely stock.. thanks for the input

You'll likely eliminate some vacuum leaks. Is it a standard q-jet or is it a compu carb? The compu carb will have wires going to it. 2 plugs

Delete everything you can. The only thing controlling the emissions on my 468 BBC is the long tube headers. Even if your not exempt there is always somewhere that will pass it for an extra 50 bucks. Take a walk on the Wild Side!

Whatever you do, do not delete the PCV system. It is there for the health of the engine, and lack of crankcase ventilation can cause all types of condensation problems if you remove it.

The charcoal canister is also needed if there is no other venting system on the gas tanks.

OMG you guys are killing polar bears. just kidding yank it all off, your engine will thank you. going from 120 to 123hp is a 2.5% increase, it's a start. highdesertranger

My question to the OP is : "What do you think it will change?" Deleting equipment your truck was built to utilize is a joke , imo.

Might as well run 3 inch pipe and dumps after your stock engine and think you're going fast.
