Has anyone ever replaced the metal part of the dash? My 87 has a few holes in it from added accessories and whatnot plus someone hacked the stereo hole up to add an aftermarket stereo (which is no longer there I might add). I have a good one from my donor suburban just wondering how difficult it might be.

I'm planning on the same thing, for the same reason, soon. After looking at several trucks in wrecking yards, I'd say it's going to be a lot easier with the windshield removed.
I found this 9 part video series where this guy did a dash removal.

Good luck.

Thanks for the link. That looked like it might be a good way to go about it although if the windshield is removed it would probably make the whole project much easier. Since mine needs replaced anyway I think I'd just pull it out.

I've studied several trucks in the junk yard with the windshields removed, and it will be easier to cut that way. It looks like you can R&R the dash without hurting the double lip for the windshield gasket.
I'm going to do it so I can redo a lot of the under dash wiring and fix problems with the heater box and vent doors. Not to mention courtesy lights, under dash speakers, relays for the power windows and paint all the bare metal left by the factory.
