I write this post with my hands still oily from the machine shop.
My black plastic door knobs are 39 years old. One of them broke apart in my hand when I tried to unlock the door when it got down to about 20 below a few weeks ago.
After a few weeks of pulling on threads to lock and unlock my door, I finally got fed up and machined a new set out of stainless steel.
I had some half inch round stock laying around so I made a rough profile with calipers and programmed it into my CNC lathe. Spun it down, drilled and tapped it to 10-24, and hit it with some polishing compound on a buffing wheel. I love the way polished stainless looks. Figured I would post it here to see what you all think of how it looks.
