We are exactly one month away from the 2022 Cruisin' the Coast event. This week long event covers about 45 miles of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and is the biggest "car show" in this area. Last year there were almost 9500 registered vehicles and of course plenty that did not register. It is open to anything from 1989 and older. Last year there were some spectacular Square Body trucks on display, along with pretty much any other vehicle you could imagine.

I will be taking my '87 GMC 4wd again this year and will be running with my favorite-ex-brother-in-law with his '79 Trans Am. I hope to post some decent pics after we get back.

I started this thread to see who else from this forum might be going. It would be great to meet some of the other forum members and put some faces to the forum names.

2 weeks away. I am not doing anything else to The Truck that might go south and prevent me from going. Last year the night before I was replacing the clutch master cylinder and that almost ended my trip. The front suspension just got a little softening/leveling work and the Old Truck is looking as good as it is likely to get.

The Trans Am just got a new A/C compressor and we aren't doing anything else to it either.

Nobody else from this forum is planning on making this event? Last year there were some very nice square body trucks and quite a few not so nice ones. Mine was about mid pack but there weren't a lot of 4WDs.

I may go but I won’t have my truck, where do you plan to be?

All over the place! I am staying right behind the Island View Casino/Hotel in Gulfport about 3 blocks off the beach on 10th Street . I will be running all over, but probably won't go much further east than Ocean Springs.

Gotcha, we probably won’t make it to Gulfport. I’ve been once, I may go back with a friend this year and catch the swap meet at the coliseum. Last time we walked around Ocean Springs and saw some beautiful cars and trucks.

Over the last few days we have cleaned, cleaned, and cleaned on the Old Truck. I am loading it up, we leave around lunch tomorrow for Gulfport. My favorite-ex-brother-in-law has been making good use of the carrying capacity of my Truck. There is a double burner and two Dutch ovens under the toolbox and his extra cases of beer are finding a home in my truck as well.

Mrs. Redfish and Redfish Jr. are both very excited, this is really the only family vacation we have done all year.

The journey begins:

Yes, it is squatted because there is a LOT of weight in the back!

The Sunday morning block party in Gulfport. Yes, they shut down the entire downtown area for this.

This was possibly the best Square Body Engine Swap I have ever seen. Why go with an LS when you can put a 6.6 Duramax? This truck was superb in every detail.

I went to Ocean Springs and saw a ton of beautiful cars & trucks. Sadly there wasn’t a lot of square bodies there, lots of nice early Broncos though.

This event is so spread out and covers so many miles that it is impossible to see it all. I found it interesting that some of the vehicles that I liked the best would turn up at whatever town I was in each day. I would see the same vehicles at several different locations with no particular schedule even though there were over 9600 vehicles rolling around.

These next are mostly random pics. I want to say that I made it a point to take pics of square body trucks of every type and style, not just the ones that I liked the best. I took pics of lowered 2WDs and LS swaps even though those things don't really interest me. I wanted to show my fellow forum members a little bit of everything.

I will give the locations of each pic or group of pics as well.

This board shows how many vehicles from each state and the total # registered. The total eventually reached 9618.

This old warhorse really impressed me. I spoke to the owner(s) and they assured me that the old 6.2 was still in there. There was a diesel tank in the bed and the truck obviously sees regular farm use. I LOVE seeing these old trucks still working, still earning their keep. @SirRobyn0 I thought you might appreciate this old monster. I took a couple more pics of some other 3/4 tons later just for you, I will mention you when I get them posted.

This super clean '85 only paint scheme really impressed me as well. That is dark blue, not black. The quality of the tan sections had my wife telling me that when we repaint the '87 we WILL go back with the original tan color.

I took this pic because Mrs. Redfish liked the car. I made an ill advised comment about the similarity of their wide and heavy rear views...
