Had a little too much windshield time today and the brain just started thinking about stupid stuff. Like once a month somebody wanting to hide an ignition kill,or starter interupt,and I'm telling you I'm no thief but if I got in your truck,smashed your column got dash lights but no crank. I'd stick a screw driver across the solenoid and be gone,if you interrupted power to the coil that wouldn't stop me,there's a stupid easy way around that. So I've always thought,shut off the fuel,let it die 100 feet from where it started and they wouldn't stick around especially when people start asking what's wrong while their blocking traffic etc. But today I got thinking line locks,they couldn't tow it away drive it away,push it away,they'd have to force it onto a rollback or trailer. Line locks only have a 60 second duty cycle so thats a problem.So trying to figure that out and came up,what about a small electric winch,hooked to the ebrake cables?Mounted somewhere on the frame and a window switch or similiar for in/out which would be brakes locked or not. So now I'll leave that to other crazies to kick it around,where would you get a small enough winch? How would you limit the pull distance on the winch. There's details to work out but it seems like it could be slick. I'm not worried about mine ,but just thought I'd share what the hamster wheel in my head thought up today.

I always had the idea of welding a nut to the brake pedal, and having a super sharp spike that threads in, so whoever tries tho steal it impales their foot.

Obvious, they'd probably try to sue me for that (Though I still think I'd probably win that case).

I also had another idea of installing a decoy kill switch in a really obvious spot and hook it to a toggling relay and a horn (inside the cab). Basically, the horn would blow their eardrums out, and they wouldn't be able to turn it off unless they unhooked the battery.

Since I don't live in Denver anymore, I'm not as worried as I used to be.

Problem is a set of good bolt cutters can beat the best chain or pad lock, no matter what you do.
Cut the Denver Boot the city owns and you'll do some jail time.; ONLY IF THEY CAN CATCH YOU!

We had car theft rings in FL that could have your Ferrari in the shipping container, in 90 minutes or LESS, from any location in the state; no matter what kind of security device you thought up or how much burglar alarm you could afford.
They would steal your car, leave on the highway, call in for Trooper support, have a non-authorized towing service grab the car off the highway before the rotation tow truck would arrive; and it all was documented for the State Police Radio Dispatch.

No tow for you! 90 minutes and gone!

If "they want it", there's nothing you can do to stop it.

I did not film with this crew. They did a reasonably good job though. The expert thieves are better that Nick is. They rarely get caught!

Nah. I can still drag it up into my car trailer even if the wheels don't roll.

Did it with my daughter's Cruze after it had been sitting a while and the park brake was stuck on.

I wonder if the new generation thieves are even that interested (as simple as it is) in putting in the effort of smash and grabs (hot wiring) on these old trucks? It is my understanding that they are after the newer luxury vehicles they can grab with a couple clicks of a fob.
Regardless, I did add a hidden toggle to interrupt the grounds to the electric fuel pump and starter relays on mine when I rewired it. It also has a lock peg for the hood if guy was really concerned and wanted to add a battery interrupt switch as well.
Haven't tried, but am betting my park brake can be powered through with the 4.56 gearing.

The running out of fuel is just about the best idea. I've talked about this many times with my buddies. Let the thief get in the truck easily so there's minimal damage, get down the road a mile or so and when it dies, they'll spook and just leave it. Though since my truck is LS'd, I have a hidden kill switch that kills everything but the starter. It'll spin but there's no fuel/spark or interior power.

Let the thief get in the truck easily so there's minimal damage, get down the road a mile or so and when it dies, they'll spook and just leave it. Though since my truck is LS'd, I have a hidden kill switch that kills everything but the starter. It'll spin but there's no fuel/spark or interior power.
My answer,is always an instant on alarm,no lights stickers warnings of any kind. Doors unlocked and a fuel kill solenoid. No damage getting in,anything they try to do to steal it there is attention being to them the whole time,and even if they get it started they're going to be drawing attention with an alarm going off in the road with a dead vehicle. No one ever likes this idea.

I think the best deterrent is that it looks like a big enough pos that they just walk past it. Thinking it's not worth the trouble. Lol

OG. Manual trans. Todays thieves are too stupid or lazy to exert much effort.
My anti-theft was putting it in gear and removing the shift lever.

After the first time someone tried to steal it, I took an extra precaution every night by swapping a plug and coil wire on the distributor.

Then when someone tried to carjack me in it, I went out and bought a tazer/mace (I'm eventually going to get my concealed carry and maybe a glock 19 like my father has).

I know that Bieri has joked many times that he leaves both battery cables the same color so at least if they try to steal it, they burn the rig to the ground. Downside is then you’re both out a vehicle.
