Correct power steering pump

I have a 1976 C10 pickup, with a 454 fitted with power steering and factory a/c. I believe it has the wrong power steering pump fitted to it, as the rear of the pump body hits the a/c compressor bracket, leaving very little belt adjustment. It is the square shouldered type pump body. I was hoping someone could post a pic of the correct pump. Thanks in advance.

Why cant you just swap over to one from a newer model with AC?

Should be the same fitting for the pressure line.

I had the huge ac compressor above this, but I ditch ac in all my stuff.

But it all fit just fine.

Welcome to the site. IIRC all the pumps were the same except for hydraboost. If possible take some pics of different angles of the PS pump and compressor and brackets.

Missing the top bracket, atleast the bolts.

Definitely different from mine bracket wise. But no way should it be that tight on the water pump.

disclaimer: I don't know a lot about the v belt setups on these trucks so take this advice as is. I think your power steering pump should be spaced out so the belt from the water pump/crank rides on the inner sheave of the power steering pump and then the ac compressor gets driven off the outer sheave. If you space it out like that it might solve the clearance problems to the ac compressor as well. The square holes should be holes for tensioning. You insert a 1/2 or 3/8 ratchet and can hold the tension while tightening the mounting bolts.

I know nothing about hydroboost.

Glad you saw that.

My bracket is incomplete, I cut off the ac extension part.

Makes sense now that he just has the completely wrong stuff.

I started looking at some images of 70's 454 trucks and remembered this pump style. I recall some of my 70's square bodies having it. Maybe this is narrower neck is what you need to clear the bracket. Classic Parts sells this one for big block 75-79 trucks. $65

I don't know if you have Napa Auto Parts there, but they carry a rebuilt one for $52. P/N PS 381266.

My V-belt setup is exactly as described here but I have a 350. Not sure if the 454 would be setup the same way or not.

You may have the wrong bracket for the PS. The cap should be near level. Yours look like its at a 30* angle.
