I am replacing the current step bumper on my '78 fleetside with a period correct bumper that my truck originally came with. It has been called a "sport" bumper, like a blazer had on it. I am so confused. When I look up rear bumpers from suppliers, I find two different styles of rear bumpers. It has been so long since I saw the original bumper that I am not sure which is correct. I have attached pics of the two types. If memory serves me right, bumper "A" is the correct style, yet many sites sell bumper "B" as a '78 rear bumper. Bumper "B" to me looks like something that goes on a step-side truck. Please help!!!!

B is a step side rear bumper.

That is what I thought Before ordering, I had a lengthy chat conversation assuring me that it was the correct bumper versus what they had a picture of on their website. That was my first clue that something was wrong. My second clue was when it arrived. Printed on the outside of the box was "Chevy P/U Bumper rear fleetside 67-72 painted". It was verified upon opening the box and looking at the bumper I have contacted whom I purchased it from and they understand the problem and have forwarded to QC to get straightened out on website. Told them they have a serious problem in their warehouse that needs some fixing. Anyway, they have sent me a return label and I get to send back at their cost.

I hadn't even thought about the 67-72 fleetside. I had Square on my mind. You can see here the step side has the same profile, but the ends are curved. The 67-72 is flat on the ends.

A for a 78.
Plan on doing that conversion on my 78 as well.
After 80 they changed the style again to the one I have on my truck. Still was called the sport bumper, same ones blazers, suburbans, and some C10s had. Mine originally had a basic box bumper, but I liked the sport bumper better. Had to steal a set of brackets from a blazer, and make my own brackets for the middle. Made my own custom hitch too.

It was really hard to tell that from the first picture. The squarebody stepside rear bumper is the same as '67-'72 stepside, which is why it's so similar to the '67-'72 fleetside bumper.

Nope, found those on the internet. Blue is my favorite color. This is my current square.

It's Chartreuse.

The only reason I know that is because they make fishing lures that color. Otherwise I'd call it yellow-green.

I call them "bumper tusks".
Been looking for a set for the 80s style bumper. Have a set on my 78s front bumper.
