Convert Dually bed to standard bed?

Hey All. This is my very first post. I have a 77 C10 longbed with a dent in the passenger side bedside along the body line that I know I'll never be able to fix nicely. Having difficulty finding a used bedside nearby with a round fuel door to replace it. There is a dually bedside in nice condition for sale not too far and I was wondering if it was essentially the same (length, etc) as a regular bed and would bolt on just the same. Figured I could remove the dually flares and patch-paneling in the standard wheel arches. Has anyone heard of this being done? Thx in advance.

As simple as you're thinking. But it would be a shame to ruin a nice dually bed.

Fixing a normally repairable dent is usually WAY easier and less time consuming than reconstructing a bedside with patch panels.

My thoughts exactly. Unless the thing was T-boned or something, I feel like trying to weld in and smooth out patch panels is just as much if not more work than fixing a dent. Even if you have to cut out where it's smashed, hey look at that you're still patching a bedside...

Personally, I'd either continue your search or buy a new bedside.

If for some reason you do use the dually bed, I'd be interested in the dually fenders as I like to have a spare set.

Yes it could be done, wise no. Patching in a large area would be difficult and very time consuming. Doubtful the end result would be decent, and quite a bit of filler would be needed. This is a long straight area, imperfections would be quite obvious.

Post a picture of the damaged area.

No.

Once you've removed the dually fenders you'll find the wheel openings have been hogged away on the bedsides and added brackets to facilitate the install. You will have a bigger mess on your hands than you do now.
