Mine didn't have dual tanks from the factory. Somewhere along the line, someone put a 1987 box with dual fuel doors on it so I put in the dual tanks. I used the Pollak motorized valve instead of the solenoid valve, and put the DPDT reversing switch for the valve in a pre-existing hole in the dash below the radio. I bypassed the valve with the sender wires and took both sender wires all the way to the panel for the two gauges. Used the gmsports.com combo tach/fuel gauge, which plugs right into the "no tach" instrument basket. A little mechanical munching on warning light shrouds to get it in, but no wiring changes.

Clean install Rich. Does that tach come with a wiring harness to run the tach?

Hey there, GreaseDog. Wondered where you got off to.

Since it plugs directly into the existing fuel gauge sockets in the back of the instrument basket, it already has +, GND, and sender. They give you the one extra wire you need, the tach wire to the TACH connection on the distributor.

Here you can see how they put some dummy studs in a piece of plexiglas and wired them to the fuel gauge so it would plug right in to the existing no-tach basket. It also came with the tach filter, as you can see here.

I like this idea. But know this has me thinking, it would be cool to have dual fuel gauges off on the left and then run an oil pressure gauge in the tach face. That way the fuel gauges could match.

There is some fab involved in mounting the small fuel gauge, because the proper bosses are not there in the no-tach instrument basket. Some threaded standoffs, some angle cuts, and a little trial and error is involved to get a secure mounting, but it's not too bad.

Where do you buy one of those dual gauges?

It wouldn't work on the speedo because the odometer mechanism takes up that space.
