Color Search

Hey Guys, I’ve got an 82 C10 Custom. Trying to find what the original paint could have been. The brown has reddish metallics in it, this is my main focus. I believe it could be what’s called Dark Redwood Poly, has anyone ever seen the color in a square? All the original paperwork and stickers are gone from this truck. Thanks.

Our '81 GMC Sierra shop truck was a dark brown metallic. Don't remember the color name, and that truck has been gone for many years. We bought it in the spring or early summer of ' 81, and it had a nasty scratch on the left rear fender that supposedly was from unloading it from the car carrier. It was on the back lot, slated for repair. We'd looked at trucks all over town for a month, needing another shop truck for the parts store delivery runs. This one had everything we wanted except for it being a 305 instead of a 350( but Dad may have been okay with the smaller engine for better mileage and how people would drive it). So we go to pick it up after making a deal on it , and the fender is a different shade of brown.....if this truck has not been so hard to find, this woulda killed the deal. Apparently they had used a color from a different year? We also had a '79 C10 Burb for many years that was metallic brown with the cream color on the side panels. IIRC the '79 color and '81 color were pretty close (more of a chocolate brown), and the '80 and '82 colors were more root beer/reddish brown.
We could always pick our truck out of a parking lot though!

I did a search for 82 Chevy truck brochures

And also pulled up the generic info packet from the GM Heritage Center archives

It's not clear to me what color that would be.

Having said that: I suggest you send your VIN to the Heritage Center and ask for a copy of the original invoice.

The invoice will include build timing, original RPO content and pricing, plus any available discounts, and selling dealer information.

Then you will know for sure.
