Cleaning and Painting window and lock buttons

So...30+ years have done a toll on the chrome of the window and lock buttons in my truck.

I took them apart, cleaned all the contacts and decided I needed to do something with the appearance as well.

We all know you can just by new replacement switches for almost nothing. But I got to thinking.....strip the chrome off and paint to match!

Going with matte black door panels and gloss black switch bezels with silver buttons inside.

Will post more photos as I progress. Still eating chrome off.

The Power of Clorox

Just soak in straight bleach over night. Then prep the plastic for paint and clear.

Side note....I learned the bleach dechroming method from a janitor.

Never use bleach on chrome fixtures.

Janitor was a warm fella. Almost feverish even. Kinda strange. Kept saying, “Now that’s HOT!”

On my models cars and trucks I've used Easy-off to remove old paint and chrome.
