Clamp on roof rack? I'm feeling rather horny.

Anyone seen or know of a luggage rack thingamajig that would attach to the roof for a square? Maybe something lightweight that clamps on to the drip rail? I'm asking cause my brother is a mechanic for the railroad and I'm buying a compressor for an ARB. You can probably guess what I'm thinking. Pics to come

Many years ago Dad had a bar on the roof of our '79 Burb. All it had was the mount for the K40 CB antenna (removable mast for clearance and theft prevention). I think it was probably some sort of light bar, was made out of rectangular tube stainless steel. Bit me a couple times while washing the Burb! It attached to the drip rails IIRC....I think over the front doors, ahead of the roof cargo rack. No idea what brand, he probably got it from a place in Houston that sold auto and truck accessories, or at a swap meet.

Nice! I would not use the roof rails for anything other than catching drips. They are only held on by 7mm sheet metal screws. You could use rivet nuts and some decent sealer and make it all custom https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rivet_nut

So I didn't realize how heavy these would be. The flange part of it is cast iron. It probably weighs 35-40 pounds.
I also have a shell (cap) on the truck that has to remain. Now I'm thinking I might need to make something that comes up between the cab and shell. I got the whole system, tank, valves, etc. The lines and fittings are at least 1/2 diameter. Hmmm

Please tell me you're not going to be one of those blow-holes that runs those things at full pressure and goes around scaring the cr@p out of people with train horns. We've got a few of them around here and I'm seriously trying to figure out where to find them and bring my own train horn to the party. I bet they don't think it's as funny when it's done to them.

That being said, there is at least one person around here that runs them at lower pressure and they sound fantastic without being abusive. I've always thought UP horns and steam whistles sounded much better than most other railroad's do.

I was thinking about the pressure and how it would affect the sound. I'll have to ask my brother what they run on the train. I'm not that type of guy. My philosophy is adhere to the Golden Rule. However, if someone is a dic* for no good reason, it's game on. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it.
I didn't know different railroads have different sounds. Are you saying UP trains sound different than Norfolk Southern, etc?

It's not so much the pressure as it is the flow. If the railroad ran it on 1/2" line an you go to 3/8" it won't be as loud. Tank size will dictate how long you can run it. 20 sec with 1/2" line might turn into 45 with 3/8" an so on.

No, it doesn't. Maybe I should mount them out of sight so I can maintain the element of surprise. Plus, I don't know that having them a few feet above and behind my head is a good idea. But damn, they look cool!
