Pull it up on tdc on number one cylinder and check that the rotor points at the number one plug wire. That should get you close enough for it to run, then you can make small adjustments to get it running smooth. Then find a timing light. If you turn wrenchs on old stuff your going to need one.

If everything is straight up and timed correctly, go back to fuel and spark. If you have spark, try dumping a few drops of fuel into the barrels to see if it fires.

Recheck your plug wires - the # 5 & 7 often get switched.

Maybe provide some history on this issue. For example:

It was running well, and then you made some changes and now it's not.

You acquired it in a non-start condition - reason unknown.

You have had it for some time - it was running well - and then it quit.

i tried putting fuel in carb. nothing... ok i owned the truck for about 6 yrs ran good. i sold it to my sister she drove it 4 times the forth time she drove it- it just shut down like it ran out of gas so she had it towed to my place it sat for about 4 months and she decided to sell it back to me. so i got it and i knew from when i bought it the timing was 180 out but ran good just not to its potential. so first thing i did was check everything spark, fuel, plugs, wires, distributor the whole shabang and nothing i could find was wrong. idk what it could be my last resort for answers is that there is something internal. i even drained the oil to see about gold shavings in the oil in case the crank bearings spun or went and nothing there either.. im just lost because it dont make any sense
