I am replacing the carrier bearing on my 76 C20. I didn't take a picture before I took it off and can't remember which direction it goes. There is a rounded side (pic 1) and a side that protrudes out (pic 2) from the new bearing. What I am finding is that the protruding side (pic 2) faces the tranny?
Also, there is a collar or 'lock ring' that came with the new bearing. If I slide the lock ring onto the shaft first and put the bearing up to it the bearing will not fully set on the shaft, about 1/16" overhang. Do I need to use this, the previous bearing did not have

Thank you in advance for your help
