I just bought a saginaw 4 and hurst shifter. Someday I plan on converting my truck 4 speed to the car trans. Any info would be helpful. With pics. Thanks.

I'll put a pic at the bottom. What year is your truck? Saginaw should be an easy bolt in common sbc bell housing,a pressure plate and flywheel to match your engine,a starter to match your flywheel and a clutch disc to match your transmission. The pic I'm putting up is a 3 speed saginaw, but you get the idea. You may have to make a bracket and shift rods to get the shifter where you want it. Also Hurst shifter have many different Shift lever designs some are like a big c that will clear a bench seat.

Thanks. All good info. I’m going to have to make a driveshaft. Probably going to drop it off at my buddies shop. He has a lift and can make the driveshaft. May as well order a carpet.

Has your buddy shortened a driveshaft before?

Yes, my Father actually taught him. This guys a machinist first, then a mechanic and fabricator. He has a street stock racecar and saves G body driveshafts. Maybe I’ll have him throw on some flowmasters , I hate my cherry bombs.

Ugh. You just reminded me that I have a shaft I still need to pull and take to a driveline shop, so they can fix my "handywork".

The trans got dropped off today at my buddies shop. I had to orchestrate this from a state away. But, the seller(a distant friend) delivered it. $250 saginaw 4 speed, bell housing and hurst shifter. I think a deal considering what shifters are going for. When am I bringing the truck up there? Who knows.

Yeah, the shifter prices these days are nuts.

5.3 LS swap
I have a 79 short bed sport with the f44 big ten suspension.
I put in a 5.3 LS and changed the truck four speed SM465 for a Muncie m-21 close ratio I LOVE IT.
SHIFTER WAS A PROBLEM AS IT WAS WAY TO SHORT.
I found a long handel from a hurst shifter.
when I cut the old shifter off below the boot line I selected enough of an angle to prevent me from slaming my knuckles into the dash.
The shifter is way high but I love the way it feels with the t handle,
Good luck with your truck

John, I recently pulled an SBC, 4 speed Saginaw, Hurst competition plus shifter and driveshaft from a 77 shortbed with bench seat. I first had a car shift arm but it was very a long reach to get into third. I later built a custom shift arm that curled around the seat a bit. Engine and trans sold already, but if you are interested in the driveshaft, let me know. I'm in North Jersey. Thanks, Rick

Thanks for the input, guys. I’m thinking the 57 Chevy curled shifter handle would be the way to go. I’ll send a message on the driveshaft.
