I've search for a long time and can't find how to decipher this code. I'm just curious about it, its on a steering box. Anyone know how to read this? All I see on the internet regarding clock codes are ones that have 12 marks, not 5.

Thanks, I'll check that out. It's on a 1978 C10 that we've had since new. Here's three more pics. I think this is a 708 or an 808. The round cover is around 3.5". I'm just curious more than anything, I'm going to attempt to go through it and seal it up.

Having worked the the tool and die / molding industry for 20+ years, we used all kinds of ways to mark molds , patterns and castings. The major reason was just to be able to identify a tool if parts from that tool start showing up defective or out of tolerance.
In multi-part molds the customer usually wanted individual cavities numbered.
Number and date configurations are widely varied.

Bottom line, you may never get the key to all the numbers, clocks and stampings, unless you know someone privey to the mfg process.

On a similiar note, Case pocket knives used unique methods to date their knives.
