Certain individuals have cut a portion of the surrounding metal out with the VIN tag, do the same on the new cab and tack weld it in place, since it is hard to replicate the patina of 30+ years on the rivets. Once the dash pad is in you can't tell it was altered. But HIGHLY illegal. If caught it would definitely be considered a stolen vehicle and since the paperwork wouldn't back up the transfer it would look really bad. Depending on a certain individual's welding skills the same thing could be done with the frame VIN, and skillful grinding/painting/undercoating would conceal the criminal activity even better...
