So how many types are there?

My truck is a 79, I bought a new line for a 79, and it threaded into the box, but the center hardline portion is very loose, and it leaks like a sieve.

The only conclusion I can come too is I must have the wrong line, but I thought the newer stuff was metric? So wouldn't that just not thread into my box?

Idk, I'm frustrated, at least I filled with ATF that was like 25% rainwater :bleh:

seems to me some of these use a flare and some used an oring. compare it to the original.

Mine, the line anyway, doesn't have an o ring. I just went to AutoZone and confirmed it's the right line for a 79,but it would seem to be the wrong line for my box.

I am having the same problem with my pressure line. It looks different than my original. Here are 2 pics. The new one is interfering with adjusting/tightening the pump belt. No one has the exact replacement as the original. When I remount the pump, i can't get the line to screw into the steering box.

those are both flare fittings so no orings.

does the steering box have the inverted part of the flare?

Mine looked the same as far as bends, I just had the wrong fitting.

Apparently in spite of being a 79 and every book saying the other style didn't start until 80, mine did.
