Buzzer for headlights

I keep leaving the damn running lights/headlights on when I get out of the truck. Is there a way to wire up a buzzer? Or do I already have one that isn’t working??

Your truck definitely came with one, but it’s either dead or the PO took it out. It’ll be in a little auxiliary fuse panel called the “convenience center” above the accelerator pedal. Here’s mine. They come in different colors and styles, but they all look like a box of some kind. Someone on here might have one. I’d like a different one myself.

Does the fasten seat belt light still work? Part of the same unit and some were unusually 'fragile', IMHO.

Simple quick fix....so simple you can do it in the parking lot at Radio shack (if you have one near you of course). Literally 5 minutes and thats taking your time.

I've tried a few links posted here and other places with no luck. I did come across a post on another forum that gave me the exact info I needed.

Thought I'd share it hear since I had to dig so much. I did this on my 86 k10 in less than 5 minutes. Spent over 2 hours looking for the exact info.

Tools needed:

-Radio Shack buzzer ~$4 (p#2730059 is what I bought)
-Pliers (or use fingers to pull fuses)
-Small zip tie

Hook the end of the red wire around one of a blade on the LPS fuse and plug it back in.

Hook the end of the black wire around the end of a blade on the IGN fuse and plug it back in.

zip tie the buzzer to something sturdy or another wire.

Test and enjoy.

This appears to have been an option on the 81 light truck, listed in the service manual on page 8B-6 figure 8B-11. I don't care to post a link to the other site, but thought it wise not to. There is a picture posted of that figure in the service manual.

Do I smell a sticky? LOL wish there was one when I looked for it. If the LPS and IGN info has been posted, I must be blind or didn't use the correct wording.

Yes, I have the fasten seatbelt light and the buzzer sounds when I put the key in and turn it to accessory power but it doesn’t buzz when I leave the lights on and open the door. Is this a different underlying issue?

That's a buzzer, not the optional chime. Everything should be there to plug in a chime, if you can find one. If you pull the buzzer, there should be extra terminals under it that are unused.
I'm transferring my knowledge from various GM car lines of the era, so there is a remote chance that the info doesn't apply.

What year did they start the "lights on" buzzer? I always end up leaving my lights on lol

Funny thing is that I always forget to turn mine on until I need them and then it's dark when I get out so I always remember to turn them off. Maybe a better solution would be to bypass the pull switch and hook it up to an ambient light sensor to mitigate any thought at all.
