burb rear window defroster re-solder

So when I did my barn door to tail gate conversion I hooked up the rear defroster (barn doors had defrost too) and it worked great at first. But I think I didn't have the cable routing quite right inside the TG and it eventually broke the solder at the connection to the window. What's the right way to repair that connection? Winter's coming and rear defrost is pretty nice here in wet Vancouver WA.

It needs to be crimped and soldered, or a cable tension relief right before the solder joint. Mine is broken at the connector, but did not have much need for itnin texas, so it is left alone for now

I've soldered the tab back onto the glass before and it worked. Never on a Burb yet, but the same setup in other GM products.

The problem on a burb is the window movement. There is a connector to take up the stress of a coiled wire pulling back. Not sure where exactly is his brake.

Yeah I know, it's not the best design. But it can be done. Will it be permanent? No, but it was failure prone to start with.

Here's a pic. Hard to see, but it broke off right where the braided cable attaches to the bottom of the window. I think you can see the solder puddle in the pic. Looks like I have to remove the window to do this repair. Damn. That thing sucks to remove. (The yellow wire nut is just in case the dash switch gets turned on by mistake - wouldn't want that big wire to become hot and go to ground)

Hmm. I'm curious why you say the window is hard to remove? I've had mine and others out countless times before, I always considered it very easy.

And no, I don't remove the window with a brick, lol.

You might havr enough access to work with it without window removal
