That's why you don't see many squares for tow trucks now days. A good medium duty rollback with a Cummins or Cat, or even a newer 6500 with a Duramax gets 8 mpg loaded or empty. I've even heard of a Duramax truck with 19.5 wheels getting real close to 10mpg.

Many of the racers aren't even wanting 454's, most are either doing 572 Crates on NOS or LS motors on Twin Turbos.

Our Ram 5500 rollback is averaging 11-12 mpg for all miles run.

I have a 2005 Chevy 5500 with 21' bed and the 6.6 duramax that gets around 10 mpg. We still went though $600 in fuel last week in it. I have 3 square body k30's setting in driveway none have been out in 2 weeks. Winter recovery trucks about all there good for anymore because we can charge enough to put fuel in them when there's 12" or more snow on the ground and the 2wd medium dutys won't hardly go through it.

That's the good thing about the K30's, they don't cost alot as far as what you have tied up in them, so it's OK if they sit 8 months out of the year. The newer trucks, usually have to keep them running and making money so they can support themself in payments, insurance, licensing and maintenance.

And about the Burb, $750 is the new price. That's literally half what I paid for it a little over a year ago.

The frame is solid right? It's just the ass end of the body rotting off the back? Here's what I want it for.

I'd leave it intact, stop the rust, patch it for strength and drive it on occasion, camp with it. Hell, I know some kick ass body guys too who could make it real purdy.

The last 6 inches of frame rail are thin and scaly, but still there. The left rail has a thin spot right behind the rearmost spring hanger. If the hanger were removed it could be patched easy enough. It's all still strong enough that I tow with it.

It's a great camping rig. Throw you crap in the back and go camp. It's nice that you can just put firewood in the back and not worry about ruining the interior. You don't have to worry about your drunk buddies messing anything up. If you forget to roll the windows up when it rains, it an't gonna hurt a thing. Just drive it and use it.

Hmm, that's a thought. We'll see how it goes I guess, that would cost a bit in fuel I think.

Really dudes, we need to figure out a way for moving parts for cheap. Whether a few guys chip in for some fuel and 1 guy drives it, or even run a relay with guys driving half way to meet each other. Done right, we could eventually get **** moved from East Coast to West Coast and from the South to up North. Or course that requires several guys to have trailers.

I'd love to have a supply for rust free parts around here. might give me reason to try and do some more projects. It's hard to want to work on rust buckets, I'm sure andy will agree on this.
