For sale about an hour and a half south of me. I do want a brush guard, and the price is nice, but I'm not sure about this style. My initial impression is that it looks kinda dated, and not in a good way.

Anyone got a picture of this style brush guard looking irresistibly good on a square?

thinking about cutting out the grate. It serves no purpose except appearance and blocking out the grill.

Thanks for the picture. I think the grate is probably what makes it look dated IMO. I never thought about cutting that out... but it sure would change the appearance.

I agree, it'd look a lot better without the grate. Maybe that's my answer!

My vote is put it on as is. I've replaced my grille on the '88 Jimmy more than once due to birds hitting the plastic while driving on our farm roads.

Perhaps paint the grate a flat black.

I think it looks good.
You should pick it up.
Then later on should it happen, you find another one.
You can switch it out and put this one on your second truck.
We all know you can't just own one....

Thanks for the input guys. I'm going to look at it tomorrow afternoon, and will probably snatch it up. Guy said he take $50 for it. The idea to cut the grate off is what makes me confident I'll be able to use it. I'm just not sold on the grate look, but I can think about it more when I get it home.

Funny you should mention that. I already have two squares and I found another square on Marketplace today that looks like a good one to bring home, see picture below, but that'd be number three. I don't think that's in the cards right now (I do like my marriage, and I live in town with neighbors and such). I also love my completely rotten K10 too much to sell/scrap it. Trading up really isn't my style. I prefer to ride 'em 'til the end.

Damn I want it tho... Unfortunately, $6500 is more than I can just throw around on a whim.

$50......get it....I paid $100 and even if I cut out the grate, I'll still be happy. I wanted the military version but hard to find in my area in the $100 price range.

Ture, can't beat the CUCV grill guard. They're just too cool.

Unfortunately they can't be had for $50, at least not that I've seen. The new CUCV guard repops from hillbillywizard.com are $485. That's not in the budget for my low budget squares. I offered a guy $40 for one on Craigslist years ago, similar to the Luverne, but never got a reply. It seems as though the stars have aligned now.

If I cut the grate out of this one, I think it'd be half way to a CUCV guard. If I added corner supports as @Camar068 suggested (I do have a welder) and painted it a solid color to fix the chrome plating that wouldn't match, I think it'd be 75% to a CUCV guard. Either way I'd have some light mounting options if the grate were removed. That appeals to me for setting up in the dark for goose hunting.

I'll report back after I see it in person.

With that being said, I pretty much have to pick this one up for $50.

How come your brush guard sticks out so far on either side of your fenders? Is that just how it fits, or is it an illusion from the camera angle?

I do love the lights behind your brush guard. That would be my eventual goal. Are you running without a factory style grill in there?
