Hey All - hope all are happy.

When I set my base timing: truck is off - and at full running temp 185 to 190•
I unplug advance wire -
start truck -
set timing and idle is great -
Shut truck off-
Connect advance brown/black wire-
Start truck - idle goes to 1000 or 1100 -
Idle is higher -
Drive truck 30 miles -
Stays at about 1000 -

The truck has been wacky. I’ve swapped all sensors. What gives? No vacuum leaks.

Main question - how can I confirm if the advance on the truck is operating as it should?

I’m running 93octane - thought maybe the knock sensors??

How can I confirm knock sensors?

I’ll post pic shortly-

Thanks all for any help!!

the IAC controls idle. I'd start by doing a "reset" on it. if after resetting, the idle is still high, you need to force the IAC closed and unplug it. then start the truck and check idle speed against spec. hit up the 87 drivability manual in the reference library. these procedures are all laid out there way better than they can be explained in a post

Thanks - this manual is gold. Engine wise (specific to the sensors) my truck is extremely stock. I did replace the gauges, which I believe, I need to call the gauge ‘customer support line’ concerning the TCC / speed sensor set up.

Best part, all procedures are laid out perfectly.

Thanks again
