Brake Booster question...

First post... love this forum for information. It's saved me a lot.

I have a question related to the brake booster, etc. I pulled it just for painting and when reinstalling it I've noticed that the pedal is not properly returning to the correct position, thus the brake light switch isn't engaged. That metal plate is very close to the switch, but not engaging it. Basically, my brake lights are on after hooking everything back up. Mechanically, I'm pretty certain everything is back in place.
Do you think I have a bad booster or booster check value? Check valve seems to be operating correctly to me.
Does idle generate enough vacuum to get everything back to normal positions? I'm also wondering about that couple inch rod on the master cylinder side... it fell out when I removed the booster and I don't know if I've put it back in the correct orientation. It might be reversed. I'll check that.

I think I have a theory... check valve seemed fine, booster seemed ok too from some simple testing.

I think the brake light switch might have got pushed back while I was under there disconnecting the push arm. That switch has a long plastic threaded length for adjustments... I think it got pushed back by accident. I've threaded it in some and everything appears to be back to normal. So, the brake pedal was returning to the correct place. I didn't think it seemed different while seating in the truck. It's usually something simple with me. lol
