Do you do a suspension lift or a body lift? I don't want a sky high truck, just about 2-3 inches. Thanks!

suspension lift is the way to go. I did put a off-road design 1" body lift on my truck when I did the Cummins swap for a little more clearance.

Anything more than a 1" body is lame.

I did both for reasons lol 6” Suspension for obvious reasons and 2” body so I could run my exhaust out the side of the bed where the gas doors used to be. It all depends on what you want a body lift is cheaper but don’t let anyone tell you easier.... you will be messing with bolts that are rusted and will more then likely break then your cutting the floor open to remove the captured nut.

your an exception to the rule.:)

2" isn't bad, we all know those trucks with the 6" body lifts that I'm talking about.
That’s just silly lol like I said I needed to fit a 5” pipe between the fram and bed floor and I still had to cut some of the floor out to get it all to work. Mines homemade 3” x2” aluminum slug for the cab and 2” x1/4” steel square tube

Id go suspension lift all the way. 1 or 2 inches tops on a body lift. After that you need to start modifying fuel filler necks, bumper brackets, steering shafts, wiring, linkages, etc. Oh and if you have a rusty truck then it might be opening a bigger can of worms.

You gotta do bumpers regardless that just looks like ass with bumper gap. Either way Suspension or body there’s gonna be worms lol

When you do a body lift it moves the body away from the frame. The bumper is attached to the fram the end result is a gap and it looks half assed. I knew what my spacers were gonna be so I raised my bumper that much in the front. The back bumper I made the brackets so I mounted it with the bed on to assure no unsightly gaps. As far as the GMC it depends on which heads it got on it I’m guessing “ battery” heads. If so it will be a coolant sipper.

Yea thats true, I personally prefer suspension worms lol. I would hate to have to redo body mounts or snap off a body mount bolt. I did a lift on a 99 Cherokee that fought me every step of the way but everything was easily overcome with a sawzall, bfh, and or torch.

To the OP, those generation GMCs have a torsion bar suspension so you can raise the front end of the truck about 2 inches just by spinning a wrench. You should get new shocks after this and definitely get an alignment. Some people go higher, some people refuse to do it. I did it on my 2003 Ram 1500 with no ill effects. Just look at your CV angles after you level it, you want them as parallel to the ground as you can.

Battery heads? I'm new to the LS stuff, I really like small blocks.

That's cool. And I don't know of ANYTHING that cant be fixed with a sawzall, torch, and zipties!!
