Grit is just a measure of patience. To each their own.
THIS Grit excercised extreme grit patience and I can still see 10,000,000 micro scratches in my new, polished paint job! Lol

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Easy-Off oven cleaner.

I've used CitriStrip to remove grey primer that was painted over the original red pain on my Blazer. After trying several techniques, this was by far the best and most efficient. Pour some in a metal bowl. Use a paint brush to put it on. Be liberal but not too sloppy. Let sit until it "curdles" the paint. Then wipe off with a rag or a power tool of some form.

Do test on a small corner before you do this. If it sits too long it can get into the bottom layer of paint. When done use a hose to spray down to stop the reaction.

Best of Luck!!

That's quite impressive, I'll have to try this on my Suburban. I don't even care if it hurts whatever ugly paint/bondo/rust is underneath, I'm just tired of the blotchy gray primer and wasn't looking forward to sanding it off and gumming up the sandpaper.

Yeah, guess I didn't consider that the paint may degrade real easy with something that wouldn't instantly eat the old paint under it as well. Of course, it's never the paint you want to fall of that doesn't stick....but any of those above products and a pressure washer may do the trick with less wax on wax off.

When my little brother was about 4 he found a couple cans of brown spray paint, and commenced to painting my Mom's dark blue 67 Impala Coupe. Me and my Dad got it all off with DuPont #7 rubbing compound and a lot of elbow grease.

@WFO I don't suppose any pictures are left of Mom's Impala? Kinda liked those big boats. Worked the summer of 67 for a guy with an SS427 Impala, really nice car. Yellow, AC, turbo 400, posi, with white interior and a 390 horse BB. His wife wrecked it, then they divorced. Not sure if the wreck caused the split, but it didn't help!!.....lol

She might have some in her boxes of pictures, but not sure.
It was a good lookin car, but was gutless with a 283 2 barrel and a power glide. She had a red & white 59 2 door Impala before that with a 348.
After the 67, she bought a 69 Riviera with a 425 in it.

As a toddler I once got caught trying to "buff" my mother's red Impala with a hand rake (It was sitting by the car, so I assumed that's what it was for.) Fortunately, my dad caught me before I did more than a scratch on the fender, he wasn't very happy. Let's just say, I didn't do that again...

When I was in high school, a kid's dad got a new maroon cargo van. The kid thought he'd do a good deed and hand washed it.....with Comet. Said it foamed up real nice too.

His dad said he knew he meant well, otherwise he would have killed him.

I remember when I was 5 or 6, I found that I could pull off the sealer stuff where the back porch stoop met the house. It was some kind of grain bin caulk or similar. Anyway, I balled up some of it and some how discovered that I could use it to draw on the garage door's oxidized brown paint. When mom found it and asked me about it, I blamed it on my brother. She didn't believe me though, lol. I don't recall the punishment, but I never wrote on the house after that.
