Greetings and good morning to all. Just recently (3 weeks ago) I insured a fully restored 1987 Chevrolet Suburban 4X4 through a WELL know insurance company. Today, I get an email saying there is now a response from their Corporate Headquarters that they can't insure it for my original claim of value and will ONLY insure it for a little over $10,000. WHAT? SERIOUSLY? I have proof that I have spent over $19,000 in parts in two years. That is for parts only. Ok folks, this is now the time to give me some REALLY good advice on my next option. Keep those square bodies rolling!

What he said, Hagerty is good.
Grundy isn't bad either but a little picky.

Well known doesn’t mean “good”.
Most top tier companies will insure for stated value. Likely require an appraisal. Not unlike Hagerty or whoever.
Because they don’t know just because you spent $20k that it’s worth $20k. There’s plenty of junk out there with a lot of money “in it” that isn’t worth much for insurability purposes.
And stated value policies only go so far. Without an appraisal anyway. To prevent fraud.

Hagerty has values they use automatically I believe. They went with $32,000 for my Chevelle and $17,000 for the truck. Those are their figures, not mine.

I have Hagerty. also. Never any questions, they asked how much I wanted it insured for and that was it. The Chevelle ,Corvette and the Nova all on it. My son has it, too. We had a big snowmaggedan 3 years ago, his Nova was in an enclosed trailer and the roof went in. No physical damage to the Nova, but it got wet and sat for a week or so before we found out. It developed mold and mildew, so Hagerty totaled it. He had a stated value policy of $14 K on it, told them he was keeping the car and Hagerty sent him a check for $7500. So far , so good!!!!.... YMMV

Thanks to all for the very interesting replies...…..update: I just received an email this afternoon from my insurance company (I have been with them for OVER 35 years too) they said after I mentioned about the thick file I have with the parts receipts in it, here is their response: "None of that applies to the rule unfortunately". Soooooo, I am getting ready to make some calls. Unbelievable.
