Best black matte

In your opinion what's the best black matte? Looking for a temporary paintjob.

IMHO, temporary paint jobs are a bad idea unless there is bare metal/primer that needs protected. Sanding off cheap paint sucks.

That's what it would be doing. I just need it to cover bare metal since my square sits outside.

If you are wanting a matte black you will paint later do your prep and just do a tintable primer. It will have a matte look and will get chalky after a while just like most matte paints left in the sun unless if they are done right.

Do you know a rough estimate of cost on a tint able primer?

Not off the top of my head but you can go to your local auto paint shop and ask for a black tinted primer. There is also tintable sealer as well

Rust tough has a good primer and paint and is easy to sand. Available in spray bomb at Napa.

Have you thought about Plasti dip? I've seen it used for that same purpose, to cover up existing state of paint until ready to fully do a true paint/body work. Then at that point you just peel it off and you're ready to do your sanding and what not. It's like freezing it's current state. Dipyourcar.com is where I've bought stuff from. Just a suggestion.

How long will it be just bare primer? Regular primer does allow moisture thru and will allow surface rust if left outside for quite a while in a damp environment.

This guy did it on his Nova for that purpose, said it was easy to do, proper prep(as usual)and thin coats is key, looks pretty good to me.

I plan on doing it to my 77 short. Mainly coz idk what color I actually want to go with.

Been thinking of doing it on mine too, should be even easier with all the parts removed, don't think I'll do black though be kinda hot in the summer around here.

True. It does get pretty damn hot around here. Good thing about it, is that they have a lot of colors to choose. Even a matte white would look good.

Yeah, I was thinking white or a light gray maybe.
