Does anyone else have to deal with battery corrosion? Any ideas on what to do? It’s a fairly new battery but it’s already causing me some rust issues. Is there anything I can spray on it to neutralize the acid?

The only time I've seen that, the battery was leaking.

i always put a little grease on the terminals to prevent corrosion . if you have acid dripping you may be overcharging or a cracked case terminal. backing soda in the battery tray will help neutralize acid some.

Clean the post and connector with a solution of water and baking soda using a steel or brass brush. Then coat the connector with copper anti-seize.

Happy trails!

My Dad was a mechanic for many years and he would spray WD40 on posts.

I didn’t think about the battery itself being cracked. I was leaning more towards the rain washing down between the fender and hood and washing it off the terminals. I will take the battery out and inspect it. I’ll also pick up some baking soda. Thanks guys.

I pulled the battery out today and this is what I’ve found. That tray looked like new in September. It looks to me like the battery is leaking from the caps but I don’t know why it would be. Battery is approximately two years old, alternator is about the same. The gauge in the truck shows just over 13 volts while driving, about 12 while idling. Please help lol.

Ok.

That battery is now a POS.

NEVER PUT A LEAD CELL BATTERY ON THE GROUND!!! EVER!!!
OR, EVEN A CONCRETE FLOOR!!!

Always set them down on a block of wood or rubber.

New battery trays can be had cheep.
Anti-corrosive pads to put between the battery and tray can be had cheep.
Little green and red felt pads/circles with anti-corrosive spray can be had cheep.

After you remove the entire battery shelf, wash everything in that area with a water and baking soda solution.

Ok I can do that. But I’ll have to keep this battery until it dies, can’t justify a new one at this point. Where do I find those anti corrosive pads?

That's actually on old wives tale. It stems from the old style tar-top batteries. The real reason you weren't supposed to set the battery on concrete was because the vapor from the battery would ruin the concrete floor.

It's been proven time and time again that setting a car battery on concrete will not hurt the battery. Yeah, sometimes they go dead, but that is caused from being discharged in cold weather or some other scenario that is hard on a battery, rather than being set down on concrete.

With the leaking battery, I'd put a good known volt meter on the truck and make sure the alternator isn't overcharging the battery.

A cement floor will most definitely destroy a battery! All you have to do is drop the battery on the floor and watch what happens.

Ok, I’m going to make a closet confession here. I have a meter, but I have no clue how to use it. There, I said it. I feel better now.
