It's likely a ways out yet but I'm putting plans together to replace all of the brakes on my '78 C30, front, rear and middle, and i'm compiling a list of parts and where I can find them for a reasonable cost. I don't think it's totally necessary, but i'd like to replace the drum backing plates too so everything looks all shiney. Anybody got a resource in mind for the backing plates? I can find them for the smaller stuff but not for the big boys. Ultimately, I'll likely just use the "cheek poker" on the originals and "tssst.... tsst" with the rattle can and then go in for some "cold snacks".

Middle? Learn me something I didn't know, and don't forget the pics.

Gotcha. For a minute I thought maybe you had the ultra rare tandem axle option.

wow, that's crusty. I got all my axle and brake rebuild stuff from rockauto. You will need to know which size brakes you have. Mine were the 13 x 2.5" and I was able to get all AC Delco shoes, hardware, bearings and seals for the rear from there.

I'd just have them sandblasted and repaint them, or maybe have them plated. I can't imagine they are corroded through, they are massive.

Soak them in Evapo-Rust, fresh paint and be done with it. Stuff works amazing well. Carry on.
