I drilled a 1/4" hole in these old Tuperware containers, when the wipers reach BDC they ride up on the window gasket and lift the wiper edge off of the window, this prevents them from developing a set and ruining functionality. It should significantly improve wiper life.

I mean.... I just replace them. I see you're in WA too. Definitely a wear part. Never had a set of wipers last more than a year, or at least work well for more than a year, on any vehicle.

Upgrade to the 86 wiper arms. They are a post style and work well. The old "pin style" are terrible.

Not to be an ass but I would never do something like this lol. Will also wear into the glass. It'll rub the grit and dirt and ruin the glass.

I've done that upgrade as well. And besides the better wiper connection i guarantee 40 year wiper arm springs are well past worn out.

the "wheel" does not touch the glass, 2.75" a rubber ball would work also.
It looks funky, a single thin wheel would look better and be more aerodynamic.
It doesn't matter which car they are on, the blades fold over and won't flip, then they chatter and won't wipe.

Lol what? You know you can take the arms off and adjust them up 1 spline or so to keep them off the gasket, right?
I think I finally understand the principle. It's not that his wipers are hitting the gasket per-say it's that the OP believes that when the wipers are parked the blade edge is pressing against the glass and that the blade's rubber edge takes a "set" from being in that position. So those things he's put on the arms ride up on the gasket and lift the blades off the glass.

I can firmly say though that wiper chatter isn't from the blade edge taking a set, it's because the wiper arm is twisted a tiny bit causing the blade edge to not hit the glass squarely. I have never taken blades off a car and noticed a set in the rubber unless the blades we ancient and the rubber hard. Nothing is going to stop that from happening.

Ohhh I see. Yeah, that's not what's causing the chatter. All blades are designed to sit that way when off, there's no way around it and it doesn't affect their function. I'd say a tweaked arm, weak springs or schmutz on the windshield is what causes the chatter

I knew an old guy that did stuff like this. While we don't understand or "get it", I can tell you the guy was a genius and worked for NASA. He was an airflow engineer and also helped design some of the cylinder heads we have on our cars.

But that was just one guy, the rest of the people I've met do this were batsh*t crazy...

I can appreciate both and thank Wooden for posting his unique take.

Fixing problems that don't exist  probably batshit lolol.

The confidence is crazy though! Makes an account just to post his Tupperware "hack" lolol.

I think he's suffering from crappy old wiper arms lol. You can see he's got a twist tie on the wiper blade.

Yes, but if you notice the angle of the "tail" of the twist tie, it is placed in a drag position thereby creating down force much like a spoiler. This feature allows increased pressure on the blade for a superior wipe.

Pair that with a body lift and a phantom grill and you got yourself a SEMA level show car.
