Seems easy with every thing i have seen and read. Car fix video explained it pretty well.

If I end up with a long bed, im going to do it like yours and not just cut vertical.

Yes......But you would need 8:1 gearing to be able to use it!

I was also thinking that overdrive on top of overdrive.....i. e. 8th gear, would be to high for the low end torque to be useable.

Also I doubt you would be able to use it like an 8 spd transmission. Maybe if you had a manual but. the 4L80 has a gear ratio of:

1st 2.48:1
2nd 1.48:1
3rd 1.00:1
4th 0.75:1

Any whoo https://www.gearvendors.com/cg2wd4s.html

I guess maybe your onto something. I was thinking like the traditional OD but these guys are saying their unit will split the gear differences between each gear and actually underdrive the OD gear .

Sounds good except for the extreme length of the unit. The length alone makes it unfeasible to me unless you were putting it in a crew cab or something cause there is no way that fits in my long bed 4x4

The 4L80 is a pretty reliable transmission to start with. I mean if you got a long box crew cab and $ to burn then I would say hell Ya! but IMO I think its just a nice day dream item.

yes you would get a 8spd but I doubt 8th would be useable unless you have very low rear end gearing. and yes you could split all the gears. but imho it's more fun with a stick. highdesertranger

I am of the same opinion. Would love a unit behind my 465!

You guys need check out the Gear Vendors link I posted

https://www.gearvendors.com/cg2wd4s.html

That's what I thought too. But somehow it splits gears so it doesn't double OD OD. And it under drives OD so you get more torque and rpm in OD. But the pic looks like it is massive. If you could get it in a small unit like the one Stacey David used that would work really well actually. Just $ out of my budget.

^^^^...and thats the proper way to cut the frame. Not only is it much stronger, it also keeps it lined up properly. :)
