Any tricks to thread speedo cable back through grommet in firewall? Old one came out easy enough but I’ve been fighting the bell shaped end going back through to install new one for way too long? Any experience or tricks to try would be appreciated. Thanks

I just did this a couple weeks ago. My K20 had a 2wd speedo cable that didn't reach the transfer case.

I think it's easier to pull the grommet out of the firewall, position it approximately along the length of the speedo cable, and then feed it back through the firewall and poke the appropriate half/lip on the grommet back into position with a pick or flat screwdriver.

It's a lot easier to stretch the grommet over the bell shaped end of the speedo cable without the firewall restricting the grommet's ability to stretch. Putting it back in position is just compressing a small part of the grommet.

I hope that makes sense.

And if you can't get the bell through the grommet just take an exacto knife and split the grommet and do what @scrap--metal said. Sometimes it's easier to just go ahead and split it than try to shove the bell through the grommet. Of course it depends on how old the grommet is, and I've found some new grommets stiff as a board to.
Which ever is easiest for you. You could try and use a hair dryer to warm the grommet to.

We used a bullet shaped insert to help drift it through the grommet.

I used a pair of cutters to cut the grommet. Sure wish they would include a new grommet on any new cables

Could you shove a "mechanical finger" thru the grommet, grab the cable, then try to pull it thru....with some lube, of course??? Gotta be a pliable grommet, tho.

I know I'm late to this but - luve it up!!! After it is through you can use brake clean to remove the lube.
