I have gauges, but the "un-used" clock spot has a warning light.

I've owned 4 of these trucks, pulled 20 or so clusters and NEVER seen this...

What year was this from? Anything in the overlay for the other two positions?

1990 v1500 suburban.
Nothing in the other 2 slots, but the circuit has spots for the 2 other lights.

Cant figure out why there's a warning light and a gauge

Does your overlay not say anything? Should be a warning light of some sort. The late model trucks did have stuff over there instead of a clock. Like for a Burb, it might have been a Rear Defrost light, maybe a 4x4 light etc.

I've only got a brake indicator in that spot on my 74. Pretty sure its if the proportioning valve dies or something.

Would be cool to add a Loc light for my truck whenever it's in 4hi or 4lo loc.

That's the issue. The overlay has a battery, but I have gauges.
There are 2 more spots for bulbs, but nothing else on the overlay

Ahhh. Shoulda known that. Thanks.

My trucks just super simple. Temp, Amps, Oil, Speedo, and Fuel. Nothing complicated or 50 gauges and lights like newer cars.

That is correct. I've seen it before. It's just a warning light. The other 2 spots may not have been used or are for other options. I had a dash for a 91 that had the same set your speaking of. They did this because by this time the stereos were nicer and the clock was on the DIN stereo.

Interesting.... so I have a voltage gauge and a voltage idiot light....
The circuit board has spots there in the other 2 holes. I might put a bulb in them to see if they light up for anything

You'll also notice they are mini sockets too. They're about half the size of the older trucks. Not sure when that started. Maybe 89 I think it was when GM went to the Full DIN Stereo with the clock in it. I think that's when that when that clock delete and using it for other things started.

I did notice that too. And the bulbs are soldered into the mini sockets. P.I.A. to deal with.

I am really interested in what the 2 empty slots are for. Might make it easier to use them if I go with the tach/gas gauge combo....

Hard to say for sure, maybe Rear Defrost Light, 4x4 maybe even something else on Medium Duty trucks like Air Brake Warning light etc.
