GMC!
So removed the tailgate trim off my 86 "Chevy"
Been suspecting this, but hadn't really honed in on it. I recalled seeing the RPO tage int he glove box said Sierra classic equipment for one of the options when I bought it. Then the discussion about the ghosting on the dash trim where the SilverAdo badge is.

Told the wife and she said the insurance came back as GMC as well. Weird, the title says Chevy...
Anyway, kinda stoked, have always like the "Gentleman's Chevy". Maybe casue my first memory of dad's truck was a GMC.
Anyone want to buy a set of Chevy hubcaps and hood ornament?

Sierra classic would have had the same aluminum tailgate trim, but with a GMC on the drivers side. Not sure how the chevrolet badge is attached, but you might be able to just remove the badge and get the correct GMC badge for the drivers side. That makes two Sierra Classic K20's with a Vortec 454 in them in the PNW at least... lol

The badges are attached with screws. You would have to find a new replacement or an original GMC version. FYI you can get the GMC emblem from Classic Parts of America for $55.

A couple months ago I was going to order a new tailgate panel from LMC (about $300), but they had been discontinued. I started looking around and found Classic Industries shows them coming soon for $229.99 (# 14027521), so I ordered one. Still back ordered as of Friday, but will be coming. I also got an e-mail this week from LMC saying the 81-87 bands (38-9812) are back in stock. $299.95.

Go on the LMC site. They have an area where they show you how to decode your VIN. It will tell you for sure GMC or Chevrolet, what plant it was built at, and some other things

this is correct except the year of your truck is 6th digit and the factory it came from is the 7th digit

I’ve sold the Chevy hubcaps a while ago.
Have some GMC ones now.
And yes the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks have larger hubcaps and the oe rims were 16”.
I’m putting them on 20” steelies.
They look like this but not new, lol
