Looked at the reviews on summit and everyone hates the instructions but seem pleased with the unit itself.

Well Poo ..

Right from the start a small problem stuck it's ugly head up !

With what little handling I did to install the trick polished aluminum cruise control cover the paint rubbed off in a few areas ..
The lettering really should had been laser etched instead of painted on over a polished finish ... Would had been durable for a long time ...

Not a super biggie, but did want to see a new look on the turn signal arm ...
This item I ordered from "Summit Racing" ..
Called them and told em what I had going down, they said that they will send me another one ...

How cool is dat ?!?

Customer satisfaction is a top priority with that company, I'm here to tell ya ...

I was looking through that manual and it just made me think it seems like an awful lot of trouble for something that amounts to factory GMT400 cruise control module that can be gotten out of any junkyard for $20 or less.

Is that just the Rostra retrofit cruise control stalk? If it is, you will need to have a relay system in order to get the proper signal outputs for cruise control functionality.

The column is out of a 1975 Cadillac Coupe De Ville, tilt & telescopic (Cut down, highly modified to fit) the screw-in stalk is from a early Ford Maverick ..

Reason for choosing this cruise control kit was mostly the manufacture's name ... Noted for hi-quality products ..

All components in the kit is everything that's needed to have a add-on cruise control ...

BTW ..
If you was wondering what the button is for in the tilt lever arm ..
It's for this ....

I don't know that I would go that far.... Dakota digital is known for making digital clusters, but I wouldn't say known for high quality or top of the line. They basically just remade the factory GMT-400 cruise control box. All you need is a 4 wire control stalk and the GMT-400 box and it is exactly the same thing. The GM cruise control for the entire 90's with cable throttle bodies is a standalone control box with 10 wire connector and only needs those same inputs. You need the same dakota digital passthrough sensor to provide the VSS signal(which I've seen lots of people have problems with on longevity and signal quality) and then you can have a separate light installed for the cruise engaged light using Pin 85 as a ground. Here's some pics of factory 90's box and linkage to the throttle body... which easily just transfers right onto a factory quadrajet.

Not trying to poo-poo on your install... just wanted to put it out there for anyone looking at this that it is just a direct rip-off of the GM cruise control that you can find for dirt cheap in almost any junkyard(or even on ebay or similar). The stock GM systems are VERY well known for reliability and longevity. Rostra makes a retrofit 4-wire stalk for the older squarebodies that had the single wire stalk, but you need to use two relays to convert it to the proper wiring for use in the GM or dakota system. There are wiring diagrams and instructions out there for all of this and it is a pretty common conversion.
