I’m close to installing my new GM SP350/385HP/405TQ crate engine into my ‘83 K5 Blazer. The engine came with a pancake style compressor however I’m not yet ready to install an aftermarket under dash AC kit but will be ready for initial test run of the engine with the compressor mounted but without the rest of the AC system. Is it okay to run the engine with the compressor as long as the compressor clutch isn’t engaged and just the pulley spinning or should I source a compressor/pulley delete to run the engine? Thanks!

It's ok, pully is separate until engaged, leave wires off, keep everything sealed. Read directions on adding oil. You may have to remove compressor to add proper amount if not done before. Sometimes the front needs to be down and rotated 10-20 times to pre oil seal.

Make sure the clutch doesn't engage and you should be fine. without the clutch engaged, it is essentially an idler pulley anyway.
