Hello everyone! Not to state the obvious but this is my first post. So a few weeks ago I had a square body come into my life. I found the forums though google websearching for various things about the truck, and I though I should register so I can participate in forums and not just be lurking. Myself. I'm a seasoned mechanic with 25 years in the field, but even still, there is stuff I don't know, but also things I can help with. Moving on....

The first time I ever saw this truck was about 15 years ago, at a camping gathering. A few years later the group disbanded, but some of us stayed friends. With 200 miles apart we never saw each other in person much, so honestly I probably saw the truck around a dozen times and never drove it prior to it being offered to me. Long story short a few weeks ago we went down, got her running and drove her home. She sat quite a bit in the last year, and I've done some fixin' in the last few weeks, but I still have a little ways to go. So far I've, replaced all the vacuum lines, tuned the carb, changed the transmission fluid and filter, replaced the plugs, cap, rotor, wires, fuel filter, thermostat, and coolant, the tank fuel sending unit, and a few other misc things. I've got a little ways to go as well, and a couple questions but I'll post those in the appropriate section.

The truck is a 1984 Chevrolet C20, 700R4. It's pretty much stock other than, the before mentioned dump kit and he put and Edelbrock 1806 on it a couple of years ago, but the original Q-jet was included with the truck.

Hi Rob thanks for joining. I just live a bit north east of you.
What's the plan with the truck? Shop truck? It has a 305 in it... eh? Maybe you should toss a BB in it, live a little.
Keep this for summer errands and get your self a square 4x4 for winter, and summer fun.

Thanks for asking, what I didn't say is that I have bird farm on the side, Chickens, Ducks, Geese, and Turkeys. So no not a shop truck, it will be used for farm stuff, and for home stuff. Though I have to admit I've been driving it to the shop every day so I can work on it when I have feel time, and I've really enjoyed driving it. I have not taken the time look on the block for numbers, but I believe it's a 350. The underhood sticker says it's a 350, and it performs like a 350. After cleaning up the vacuum line it runs so good, I'm going to keep it as is, but if the 350 ever gives up I'd definitely consider a BB. One thing I do want to do is swap the semi-floating axle for a full floater. it's a 3/4 ton with a dump bed, and I know me I'm going want to load it up and don't want to worry about snapping an axle. Basically the plan is fix it up and use it as a truck.

on the 4X4 note I have mixed feelings on that. I'd love the convenience of a 4X4 not having to worry about getting stuck as much like when I need to drive out in the fields, but it means lower gas mileage and I've also got 96 Grand Cherokee which is a 4X4, so if I mess up at home I can pull it out with that. Had to do that a few times with Dodge truck which is also a 2wd. Height is also an issue with the 4X4 as I have some foot problems. So I'm good with the 2WD, but will pick up a set of studded tires and chains for it encase it's needed.

Upgrading to a 14 FF is a good idea. You might even find one with a locker. Stay away from the Gov lock if you can, and honestly I don't know if they
ever equipped a 14 FF with the weak Gov lock. Anyway, stay away from hill and a good driver with tires, weight and a locker can do amazing work.
