been cleaning up my 89 trans am and fixing things that been annoying me for years. In the process came up to needing some interior parts and other misc items. The cost of those things was getting close to 1k in ebay prices. Therefore local craigslist brings this 87 formula with 350tpi/700r4 trans. it had the dash pad replaced(which is one of the things I need), has undamaged metal part of the hatch and possibly salvageable rear spoiler. Drives ok, it has a replacement junkyard trans and decent factory posi 9 bolt rear with disc brakes. Engine misses a bit on idle and part throttle, but seem ok overall. Might be toast, as the guy had been doing some cooling system work on it and been adding oil minutes before I showed up to look at it.
It does have some body damage on passenger front and driver side door. It had previous repair in the back before as the rear bumper and the fuel door were originally red.

Will either swap the parts around and resell or will be a complete part out. Will see how things go.

debating on either blowing it to parts or swapping parts and reselling. It is worth more as a pile of parts instead of a whole car.
couple of more pictures:

I will always vote for saving a 3rd gen if it can be saved. I've even got a completely rotted out, garden variety '92 RS that I'm going to save. Just because I can.

But I also know that the pickins ain't so slim down your way. And I also know how expensive nice original Firebird parts can be. I once sold a bunch of Firebird interior parts on ebay and used the profits to buy a complete '85 IROC-Z.

And with all that said, I hope you save the car. BUT, if you do end up taking it apart, I'm sure I can give a few parts a good home.

What parts are you looking for? Shipping kills just about any deal, but might work.

Smaller stuff, things that could be shipped without too much work. I don't want to say yet, in case you save the car

I would still be interested in the engine/trans/ect. for a TPI swap if you do part it.

this might not get parted out to pieces. It drives pretty well. Scanned the computer and the BLM's are maxed out at 160. ECM thinks it is running lean, but it is obviously dumping fuel in to the exhaust.(choking smell, black smoke, etc...) My coworker noticed one spark plug wire boot laying on the header. Found another one later today. Just replaced plug wires on the suburban and the remaining good ones went to good use on this car. Adjusted the tv cable a bit as well. Shifts nicer now. Will drive tomorrow and see how it runs and how the fuel trim tables respond.

Yeah if it were near Austin, I'd be on it like white on rice, but to go all that way is just kind of pointless.

The moment that sealed the cars fate. I spotted red pieces during inspection in the back, and it looked like a simple rear end collision. Did not look too bad from the back, but apperently it was worse. I would not even like the idea of selling it to anybody as is. Curious if the previous owner was aware. Maybe not originally a t top car.

Is it a roof swap to get t-tops or was the whole rear half joined to the front half?
