Having done the mod thing for so long now....I agree with leaving it the way it is stock, and just focus on maintenence. I wish my Burb was all stock, right down to the factory muffler and wheels. Stock is worth more.

He seriously ****** this thing up, and it looked really cool to begin with. 2 Tone orange and white with minimal rust. He scored it for 400 bucks running! I dont like burbs but if I came across this deal I would have defiantly got it and given it a proper little overhaul and driven the **** out of it.

As it stands now, with no more to be discussed: Its got the ugliest and most tasteless black rattle can paint job ever. This thing is ruined.

Here is the fun part of the story you guys can feel free to comment on:

This engine is original from 75, he told me he's building a 500 horse power engine out of it. I bit my tounge and have been watching the progress.

Point for derailing the thread is: As an enthusiast car lover, if I got the suburban I would put in some elbow grease into the original cool paint job to make her shine and get the thing running good again so I can have fun driving a classic burb around and maybe use it for stuff.

If I was a ******* idiot I would think I have a 35 year old engine capable of making 500 horse power with bolt on parts available at Autozone. I would throw all those stupid ass stock brackets away and get some stuff to make it work from Autozone. I would think a edelbrock intake manifold and holley carb is going to get me close to my 500 horse power goal.

I could rant about this for hours. Basically, saying that alot of cool trucks get completely ****** up by idiots that think chrome valve covers from autozone are awesome and worth something installed.:yucky::High 5::flipthebird::roflbow:

Awe man that sounds like a sweet burb gone to hell, should offered him $500 for it just to save it before he destroyed it I wonder if it was the color combo hotrod was looking for??? The burnt orange/ lighter tan??? I know what yea mean if my boss had my truck the thing would be a rattle canned flat black bondo buggy right now, everybody thinks its a peice of ****, it might look like it but I see the potential and when I start getting some work done to it when it warms up hopefully the ppl around me see that too for now I just bite my tongue lol I was even told to paint it camoflouge by a coemployee when I first got it lmao

In all fairness he told me about the deal before he got it, but I was over a thousand miles away with no way to check it out. It was not the burnt orange tan color scheme, it was straight up 70's style bright orange and white.

One thing I regret more than anything on my truck is the rattle can primer job, it looks better but I still dig the original paint and surface rust. Its all just temporary, i will be painting it back to the original blue color with the cheesy 80's in stripes and all. I just wish I had it in its original skin of rust and blue paint. :flipthebird: you guys for convincing me to rattle can it!

I'm sticking by my vote Iman! I think your rattle can primer job looks good, and waaaay better than what you're describing your brother did to that poor 'burb. Plus, you're slowing your surface rust from pitting the hell our of your metal. That adds a lot of work (and money if you're paying someone) to a paint job later--having to skim 80% of the body to fill in all the rust pits.

I know what you guys mean about keeping originals, well, original. And any thing I do to my truck I try to make sure it's reversible. But my truck wasn't as nice as it sounded with 36,600 on it. The paint was oxidized like crazy the trim was messed up it ran like crap and a lot of the interior had to be replaced. I have made it a ton better and I really appreciate the original factor it has. Gonna keep the original paint and sure won't hack the metal. But I'm Open to some engine performance mods, lift, exhaust, stereo etc that can be reversed someday for originalitys sake. I agree it is sad to see perfectly good classics hacked and ruined.

Heres what I would do, assuming I didnt have to worry about passing emissions:
GMPP Iron Vortec heads
Edelbrock PN 2116 intake manifold
GMPP camshaft PN 12353914
Have the carb rebuilt By SMI carburetor for specific for the head and cam combo. I would keep the factory thermostatic air cleaner just to help on cold mornings, since you dont get a heat riser in the vortec heads.
small tube shorty headers
have a custom y pipe made to replace the factory one, probably 2.25 from the headers, Y'ed into 3"' into a 3" magnaflow Cat(i dont like fumes)
long case magnaflow, 3" in, dual 2.25 out, behind the back wheels.
If i was to lift it, I would go with a 6" suspension lift, maybe a 2" body lift, 35's and change the gearing to around 4.56 or close to it.
