77 Chevy k10 truck won't turn over

So I have a 77 Chevy pickup k10 tilt steering all assesories turn on when ignition switch is slide forward but I can get it to even try to turn over put a new ignition switch in it and a new starter plus solenoid in it and the starter can be by passed and it works what do I need to do to get the ignition to start my truck again. plus can I just by pass all of that with a push button start?

run a new wire from your ignition switch down to your starter solenoid. i had to do it with my 85 k20 already


1985 K20 w/ a cammed, ported, and bored 350, sm465, np208, 4.10 gears, dana 60 & corp 14, 6" lift, 37s, and a full stereo.

It could very well be the wire damaged/broken or a burnt fusible link, but if you do inspect it and see no damage or replace it and get no results, I'd look at the ignition switch under the dash being bad.

Doesn't that wiring harness run directly under the joint? I would suspect a wire damaged in the steering wheel shaft being that it does start when slid forward. Unless I misunderstood your post.

Check power coming to ignition switch and check for ower out of the ignition switch. If all good follow to park/neutral switch. Then if still no issues likely wire damaged from there
