'73 Chevelle SS Wagon (local find)

I've been eyeballing this '73 SS for a year or more now, but I finally stopped to check it out today. Its the only year that you could get a Chevelle as an SS and it didn't have to be a coupe. I figured others might like to see it.

It's a 350 car and all the SS badging is still there. The original rear wheels are gone. With the exception of the LR door, the paint appears to be original. The interior is black and actually decent besides a ripped up front bench seat. The fenders, doors, rockers and RR quarter all need some patch work. The LR quarter is pretty well shot. Frame appears to be solid.

I so badly want to buy this car, but the last thing I need is another rusty project.

Never knew they made a wagon in 73, that has to be pretty rare. I had a 73 SS back in the late 70's, had swivel bucket seats, only a 350, but still a pretty neat car.

I remember seeing one a good 15 years ago in Columbus. It was a dark red color with white along the lower portion.

I really like the black/silver combo.

It's cool and rare, but not in the best shape. So offer the guy a grand or two (depending on how good the drivetrain is etc) and see what he says. Don't waste money, but if you can get it dirt cheap it's worth it.

The last thing you need is another rusty project, but the first thing you want is this car... If it's cheap enough to afford no sweat, then you can easily justify it to yourself because even if you don't get to it right away it's not going anywhere once you buy it. And these cars aren't getting any less rare. When else will you have the chance to get a car like this without going out of your way to find/buy one?

If I saved every cool car that I sold cheap or scrapped over the years I'd be about $3-5K poorer than I am now, but I would be so much happier, and who knows maybe 20 years from now I'd be a few hundred grand richer. Or at least no poorer than I am now. But now that I look back, if I try to re-buy any of those cars, I will be tens of thousands in debt easily...

Best I can find with some quick research, less than 1500 SS wagons were made. Most were 350 cars, with less than 100 having the 454.

Lol, I like your logic. But my wife isn't so forgiving these days. Back in the fall, I acquired a '90 454 SS. I always liked them and it was the first (and likely last) chance I had to get one for a great price. I in no way shape or form needed that truck, but I bought it anyway. Even though she saw the whole scenario coming, she was less than thrilled about it.

The seller isn't very motivated, but did give out a general price range he would want. I'd like to go back sometime when there's no snow and the ground is firm to get a better look at the underside.
