73-80 moulding on 81-87

Has anyone ever used pre 81 moulding on the 81+ front fenders? I have an idea floating around for using pre 80 moulding on my 87 by sectioning the front fender so I can use pre80 side marker lights also.

I think I have a pic of one from a salvage auction, it may be in the salvage auction thread. It didn't look very good to me.
